Economy

Thousands of Americans have begun affirming a new direction for the national economy.

It’s called
Slow Money.

Inspired by the vision of Inquiries into the Nature of Slow Money: Investing As If Food, Farms and Fertility Mattered, published in 2009, the Slow Money Alliance is bringing people together around a new conversation about money and finance that is disconnected from people and place, about how we can begin fixing our economy from the ground up… starting with food.

An early pioneer in the National trend, Homegrown Local Food Cooperative was voted one of the Top Five Slow Money businesses in the country in the Slow Money USA national competition in Summer 2010.

We got voted this honor, because we pioneered the idea here in Central Florida back in 2007, that supporting local farmers contributes to the health of the local economy, keeping local dollars within our community, and keeping local farming families in business. Facilitating this circularity provides economic opportunities and a steady flow of monies for a more thriving community.

Hundreds of Central Floridian have begun affirming a new direction for our local economy.

It’s called Localvore.

With every penny more precious these days, you’ll be pleased to know that buying local, is more often than not, a better bottom line deal for your personal budget. You can be satisfied in knowing that your money stretches far here at Homegrown Co-op is so many ways. Because of our many direct connection to our local farms, we avoid middle men and long-distances, and pass those savings on to you.

When you spend your money at Homegrown, more money for each product goes directly to the producer, reducing the loss of family farms that causes rural communities to deteriorate. This action preserves open space, jobs, and the security of a local, healthful food supply. Buying directly from local farmers and ranchers allows your money to work more powerfully, doing the most economic good for the most people, while enriching the local community.
